22 Nov Women’s Leadership Network: 2017 in Review
The mission of Navigate’s Women’s Leadership Network (WLN) is to share unique learning opportunities, highlight individuals and businesses who are promoting and exemplifying a more diverse workforce, and provide a venue for shared ideas and experiences among the business community – and we’re happy to report that we are thriving!
Through our own hosted events and targeted participation with external organizations, we continue to encourage learning, foster career development, and provide mentoring opportunities to benefit women in the Philadelphia region. We were busy in 2017, and it was nice to meet new people and visit with familiar faces throughout the year. Here’s a quick recap of the past year:
The Chamber of Commerce for Greater Philadelphia Paradigm Award
On March 24, The Chamber of Commerce for Greater Philadelphia held its Paradigm Award ceremony. Navigate was a sponsor of the event, and a group of Navigate leaders attended the event, where Teresa Bryce Bazemore, President of Radian Guaranty Inc., Radian Group Inc.’s principal mortgage insurance subsidiary, was awarded the most prestigious award for professional women in Greater Philadelphia.
Women in Bio
On March 29, Women in Bio (WIB) Philadelphia celebrated Women’s History Month with an event offering tips for women on work-life balance and discovering different career paths and leadership roles in the life sciences industry. Michelle Grant, Senior Manager at Navigate (and member of the Women’s Leadership Network), moderated the panel, “Taking Charge of Your Career: A Panel Discussion with Industry Leaders on Career Obstacles and How to Overcome Them.”
Swing & Sip
From May through September, we once again held our popular Swing & Sip golf series, helping women to learn how to leverage golf for their business success in a comfortable and empathetic environment. The monthly events took place at golf courses across the region and were very well attended, as always!
Walk a Mile in Her Shoes
On May 6, the WLN sponsored a team of Navigate men for Walk a Mile in Her Shoes, bringing awareness to domestic and sexual violence against women. Our team members – and hundreds of others – put on high heels and literally walked a mile in women’s shoes to support Laurel House, a comprehensive domestic violence agency, providing direct services throughout Montgomery County, as well as preventative education for students, specialized trainings for professionals, and awareness events for community members.
Speaker: Eileen Cunniffe
On May 17, we hosted an event on the value of non-profit board memberships, “Boosting Your Brand with Board Experience.” Eileen Cunniffe, a director for the Philadelphia Arts & Business Council, discussed how to pursue a board membership and how it can help with career progression.
On October 18, Dr. Brandi Baldwin-Rana joined us for an evening of networking and learning. A recognized leader in helping companies design employee programs to develop, engage, and retain their top talent, Dr. Brandi believes that leadership is the one element that can make anyone’s life more meaningful and enjoyable. More than 100 attendees joined us for the event, which included a spirited discussion on how to elevate your personal leadership brand.
The Main Line Chamber of Commerce, Society of Professional Women
In November, representatives from the WLN joined The Main Line Chamber of Commerce, Society of Professional Women for an invite-only roundtable discussion with leaders from the region’s prominent women’s organizations. We enjoyed sharing lessons learned and success stories to help our organizations thrive and to enable us to more effectively fulfill our individual missions.
We’re already planning our 2018 calendar of events, and we hope you’ll join us. The WLN has no official membership; we welcome all colleagues, clients, and friends of Navigate (male or female) to participate in our activities, which are meant to provide continued learning, career development, and mentoring for women in the region (across all industries). Simply watch out for updates via our website, blog, LinkedIn, Facebook, or Instagram for news of upcoming events (some of which do require advanced registration).
