19 Sep Our 2018 Service Day at Cradles to Crayons
This year for our annual service day, our team came together in support of Cradles to Crayons Philadelphia. A local organization, Cradles to Crayons provides children from birth through age 12, who are living in homeless or low-income situations, with the essential items they need to thrive at home, at school, and at play.
They collect new and nearly new items through individual and corporate donations, as well as community drives. Once received, Cradles to Crayons processes and packages the donations for distribution through its volunteer-fueled warehouse, The Giving Factory®.
They then provide these items for free through partnerships with community and service organizations, including churches, social workers, and foster homes. These partners can place orders with Cradles to Crayons for specific children, which helps to ensure that each child gets exactly what they personally need in order to grow and thrive.
Navigate Gives Back
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Philadelphia has the highest poverty rate in the country, and nearly one in four Philadelphians, including 130,000 children, live in poverty. Giving back to the region in which we work and live is a big part of what we believe in at Navigate, and helping underserved youth in particular is something that our team is truly passionate about. Spending the day at Cradles to Crayons to help ensure that local children have the school supplies, clothing, and basic necessities they need to feel valued and safe enabled us to provide assistance that would result in immediate benefit for our community.
During our service day, half of our team helped to assemble packs of outfits, while the other half evaluated and prepared toys and puzzles for distribution, checking to make sure all the pieces were intact and that instructions were included, etc. Every item we worked with was already in the hands of the kids who need them within the week – making the impact of our time spent at The Giving Factory® truly powerful. We were also able to tour the facility to get a full understanding of the work that they do on a daily basis.
We’re thankful to Cradles to Crayons for giving us the opportunity to support them and the Greater Philadelphia Area. If you’d like to take action and donate time, money, or goods to Cradles to Crayons, you can learn more on their website.
